QUICK TIP FOR MAKING THOSE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS A REALITY!

Does this sound familiar: Year after year New Year’s Eve comes and so do the resolutions.

Big ideas, goals and plans are the way to get off to a fresh start, right?  Past failures won’t deter you!  This will be the year you get them done.

Then again, you might be on the other end of the spectrum and by now you don’t even bother with resolutions at all.  Why set yourself up to fail?

It doesn’t have to be that way.  Resolutions are just goals and goals can be accomplished.  Individuals and organizations do it all the time – you can too!

Here’s our quick tip to help turn your resolutions into reality:

Make your list of resolutions and then break the big ideas into small manageable time-sensitive steps.

Tackling a big resolution can be daunting.  What seemed like a good idea at the stroke of midnight suddenly becomes to big to comprehend at daylight.  Most big goals have many smaller steps – we just have to look for them.  Here’s how you do it:

  1. Take your goal (resolution) and list the steps that need to happen to make it a reality.

  2. Be sure to plan for any resources that may be needed including, financial, human or physical.

  3. Then, look at your annual calendar and set plan for each step on a monthly or quarterly basis. Make it time-sensitive so you help yourself avoid procrastinating.

  4. Finally, plot it out so each goal is reached by the end of this new year.

Yes, it really is that simple!

Breaking a large goal, or in this case resolution, into a step-by-step process offers many benefits including:

  • Better resource planning,

  • Increased motivation -especially as some of the small steps start to add up to significant progress and,

  • The process will actually help keep you accountable for your tasks.

Turning your resolutions into reality is achievable and it’s a great start to Changing Your Equation.
